The Mac's Hotel boasts a rich history dating back to 1855 when Hector MacDonald, purchased the land for a substantial sum of £2,000. Construction commenced immediately, and by February 1856, the first stage of the hotel was completed. Sadly, Mr. MacDonald passed away just three years later, in 1859, necessitating the transfer of the hotel's license.

Over the ensuing decades, the Mac's Hotel continued to evolve. In 1875, the hotel was sold to John Robertson, marking a new chapter in its history. This period saw significant expansion, with the construction of the iconic Admella Room in 1878. Named after the ill-fated ship, the Admella Room was a local landmark, originally adorned with captivating maritime artwork.

Further developments followed, including the addition of balconies in 1890, which served as extra accommodation during periods of high demand. The hotel has witnessed many changes of ownership throughout its 170-year history, each chapter contributing to the rich tapestry of its past.

Today, the Mac's Hotel continues to be a cornerstone of the Portland community, offering a blend of historic charm and modern comfort.
